Indian Institute of Arbitration and Mediation
Indian Institute of Arbitration & Mediation (IIAM) is one of the pioneer institutions dealing with Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services and Dispute Prevention & Management (DPM) services in India. The main objective of the institution is to assist and promote resolution of disputes outside court by way of mediation, conciliation or arbitration. IIAM has its ADR Centre at Cochin and administrative office at Bangalore.
IIAM is a non-profit organization registered in India, and commenced activities in the year 2001. IIAM is controlled by the Advisory Board and the Governing Council. The legal and ethical aspects of the institution are guided by the Advisory Board, headed by Mr. Justice M.N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India. The general administration is by the Governing Council elected from among the members.
IIAM Community Mediation Service
IIAM Community Mediation Service with the motto; “Resolving conflicts; promoting harmony” was launched nationally by the Chief Justice of India. It is intended to contribute to the happiness and harmony of the community, by bringing justice to the doorsteps of the people. These Mediation clinics would function with an efficient team of mediators who are selected from the local community itself. It is also intended to empower people, especially the oppressed sections of society and women to participate in the prevention and early intervention of conflicts as an alternative to institutional mechanisms. The IIAM Community Mediation Service is endorsed by the International Mediation Institute (IMI) at the Hague.
Young Conflict Management Programs
IIAM helps formation of “Conflict Management Clubs” in Schools and Colleges, with the cooperation of teachers and students, so that it could cater peer mediations for resolving conflicts among students interse or with teachers’ or staff members and students in an amicable and friendly manner.
IIAM Accredited Mediators
Internationally and Nationally accredited Mediators are empanelled as IIAM Mediators. As per the IIAM Mediator Accreditation System, Mediators are categorized as Grade A to Grade D. Mediators are entitled for upgradation based on the IIAM Qualifying Assessment Programs (QAP). IIAM empanelled Mediators are bound by the IIAM Mediators’ Code of Professional Conduct.
IIAM Training Programs
IIAM is the only institution in India approved by the International Mediation Institute at the Hague, as a “Qualifying Assessment Program” (QAP) for IMI Certification for international mediators. This is based on programs whose mediator training and assessment assertedly provides assurance of mediation experience and expertise worthy of IMI certification.
To cater the requirements of various segments of people, IIAM conducts various Training programs and distanced programs on ADR and DPM.
